Installing it
-
Download and open the file
Open Sticky-Notes.dmg from your Downloads folder. A window opens with the app and your Applications folder.
-
Drag Sticky Notes into Applications
Then eject the "Sticky Notes" disk in Finder's sidebar. You can delete the .dmg file afterwards.
-
Open it, and approve it once
Open Sticky Notes from Applications. Because this is a small hobby app and isn't registered with Apple, macOS will say it "could not verify 'Sticky Notes' is free of malware." Click Done, then:
- Open System Settings → Privacy & Security.
- Scroll down to Security. Next to "Sticky Notes" was blocked, click Open Anyway.
- Confirm with your password or Touch ID, then click Open Anyway once more.
You only do this the first time. On macOS 14 Sonoma or earlier you can instead Control-click the app, choose Open, then Open again.
Using it on your desktop
Where things are
The pad sits in the top-right corner of your screen and the trash can in the bottom-right. Everything else on your desktop still works normally. Drag the pad by its top edge to move it.
Clearing and quitting
Right-click Sticky Notes in the Dock for New Pad, Clear All Notes and Quit.
The same options live under the
sticky note icon in the menu bar, along with Open at Login.
Full screen stays clear
Your notes follow you across desktops, but stay out of the way of full-screen apps and videos.
Nothing is saved
It's a playful scratchpad: notes disappear when you quit. To uninstall, quit it and drag it from Applications to the Trash.
